Second Semester

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

The recital went very well, we were missing a few members, but were still able to pull if off.  Thanks to everyone that attended and endured the limited space.

Second semester begins on January 11th.  Tuition will be due in January.

Sewing classes will also begin in the 11th - same times.

Thanks to you all for sharing your students with us.  We have a great bunch of kids and parents!

Blessings!

Important change - recital date changed

We have yet one more recital change.  I can't remember a year that we have had to make a third change to have a recital.  I apologize for the constant changes and hope that the new day/time will work for everyone.

Due to several added conflicts, the recital will have to be moved to Friday, December 7th, starting at 10am.  We will meet at the Morris Center, where our weekly rehearsals take place.

On the recital day, the students need to arrive at 9:30 to warm up and tune.  There is NO need to dress in concert black and white - this will be a very informal recital.

11:45 Percussion class:  please arrive at 9:15 to run through your piece.

The last rehearsal for this semester will be November 30th.

I hope everyone has a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.

Recital set for December 3

The Encore groups will perform at a recital on December 3, at 7pm.  The recital will be held at Community Bible Church in Lawrence.

All members are asked to dress in concert black and white.  They need to arrive at the church by 6:30 to tune and warm up.

Instrumental students need to bring their music and music stands that evening.

If you have any questions, please email me directly.

It has been a pleasure to work with your kids this semester.  Second semester will begin on January 11th.

Thanks!

Rehearsals begin September 7th

We are so excited about beginning this rehearsal year.  New families have joined us, a new group (Jazz II) has been formed, percussion ensemble has been successful and will continue, and all the other groups will be up and running with a lot of talent!

Please note rehearsal time changes - noted on the right-hand side of this site - under "schedule".

This affects Jazz II, both strings groups, and adv/jazz I band, extending the day to accommodate all the groups.

I need some help from parents this year, someone in each group to hang around to be an extra set of eyes and ears.  Several parents can take turns, if that helps.  We don't expect a parent to sit in on a rehearsal that their student isn't in - just hanging around to supervise if need be during your child's rehearsal.

My husband fell off a ladder and is home-bound for 12 weeks or more, plus has a lot of physical therapy to do.  I need to run home a few times throughout the day on Friday, to check on him.

I will offer sewing classes this year - if you need information about that, email me at hsmom@sbcglobal.net for more information - OR check out the sewing site at sewingwithmrsbachert.blogspot.com

Hope everyone is enjoying the last bit of summer - it went by way too fast for my liking!

Blessings,

Martha

Encore Homeschool Fine Arts, in Lawrence, KS, will be offering an opportunity to try out various band and orchestra instruments for those wishing to join our group  We have offered this for the past two years and it has been a success - students get to try any instrument available that day. The goal is to find a good match between the student and instrument and that is what is accomplished on that day.

Mark your calendar for Friday, August 10th - from 10:00am to noon. We will meet at the Morris Baptist Center - 146 Indian Ave. - in Lawrence.  Students and their families can come and meet the directors, try instruments, learn about our groups, and ask questions.

All groups will begin rehearsing on Friday, September 7th.

An instrument repair person will be available that day for those who already have an instrument and want it evaluated or repaired.  Information regarding places to rent or purchase new or used instruments will be available as well.

The levels of band and orchestra for this year are based on enrollment but we are planning on the following:

Beginning Band - no musical experience required

Beginning Strings
- no musical experience required

Intermediate Band - audition required

Intermediate Strings - audition required

Jazz I - audition AND enrollment in an/advanced group is required.

New this year - Jazz 2 - audition AND enrollment in an intermediate or advanced group is required

Advanced Band - audition required

Percussion Ensemble
- no previous musical experience is required - students must also be enrolled in a band, orchestra, or choir in order to participate in a percussion ensemble.  There will be two levels offered this year.

Elementary Choir - no musical experience or audition required

Jr. High/Sr. High Choir - no musical experience or audition required

Audition info: For those students that wish to be in intermediate/advanced groups or jazz, an audition with the director will be required.(no audition is required for beginning groups) The student prepares a piece of music that demonstrates their ability and plays it for the director.  Auditions will be held the same day as the instrument "try-out" day - starting at 12:30 pm - first come, first heard basis.

All groups meet on Friday - at the Morris Center, in Lawrence.  See sidebar for information about when groups meet.  The time for Jazz 2 hasn't been determined  yet, but it will most likely after intermediate band.

Fees will remain the same this year with the exception of  Percussion Ensemble being raised to $50.00.

End of year - good job everyone!!!

I want to thank all our directors and parents for a good year.  The kids did a great job at the various recitals they participated in.

Thanks to those that contributed to the director's gift cards - they were certainly appreciative of your contributions and the recognition.

We will consider everyone coming back next year unless we hear differently from you.  All the directors use the summer to purchase and/or write music for the groups, so let us know if your student will not be returning to our group.

August will bring another "instrument try-out" to help kids find an instrument that fits them.  I will post that info in June or July.

Have a wonderful summer!
